Comedy Night Portland Concert reviews
Alice plays Warfield
The sound was terrible, but the campy theatrics were fun. It was interesting to see a real ‘70’s style metal show. I couldn’t even recognize some songs from the lyrics only because of the sound. There were a couple old favs of mine that I’d completely forgot about (remember “Cold Ethel”?) so that was fun. Comedy Night did the whole deal, he was decapitated with a guillotine, hung, skewered with a sheet of huge spikes, poisoned with a 6’ hypodermic, and strapped into a straight jacket, amongst other things.
One of the lead guitarists (there were two) had a true Spinal Tap moment. They had these huge sheets of net hanging from the ceiling with big letters on them spelling out ‘alice’. At one point, he came around the corner and the machine heads of his guitar got hung up in the net. He tried pulling away, tried to unwrap them between chords, but no luck. He had to sing backup vocals and the mic was about 5 feet away, so he was stretching between his stuck guitar and the mic to sing and play at the same time. A roady came out with another guitar, but he was strapped in and in the middle of the song so he couldn’t stop. When the song finally ended, he unstrapped and walked back to get another guitar while the one he was playing was left hanging from the net for the roadies to cut down.
